Photo Competency Card for RSA & RCG (NSW)

As an approved training provider for NSW RSA Classroom, NSW RSA Online & NSW RCG, we are frequently asked questions regarding the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card; the official RSA & RCG licence for hospitality workers in NSW.

What is the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card and who needs it?
The NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card is the new licence format for RSA and RCG training, replacing the old paper certificates. The Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing (OLGR) introduced the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card system on 22 August 2011. Paper certificates are no longer issued for NSW RSA and NSW RCG training. All persons whom are required to have the NSW RSA and/or NSW RCG for their job role must attain the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card.

What is the NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate?
The RSA/RCG Interim Certificate is the temporary licence students are issued after completion of NSW RSA and NSW RCG training. It allows students to use the licence(s) immediately after training for working purposes and lasts for 90 days from training date(s). The NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate is also the 'application' students must take to a participating Australia Post Office outlet, along with 100 points of identification, to have the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card processed.

How long does it take to receive my NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card once processed at the Australia Post Office?
It can take up to 3 weeks and in some cases, longer. This is why OLGR have provided students with 90 days to have the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card processed. We strongly advise you complete the application process at the Australia Post Office as soon as possible after training has been completed.

If my NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate(s) have expired, can I still apply for the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card?
At this point in time, yes. It does mean you cannot legally work until you receive the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card in the mail. Once the NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate passes the 90-day expiry date, it no longer serves as a temporary licence. Please note: the 90-day expiry date cannot be extended. If you have missed the deadline and need to work immediately, please contact OLGR on (02) 9995 0900 for advice and assistance.

What if I completed the NSW RSA and/or NSW RCG training prior to 22 August 2011?
If you completed the NSW RSA and/or NSW RCG training prior to 22 August 2011, you have been issued the paper certificate(s). You must complete the training again before the expiry dates set by OLGR. You cannot apply for the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card with the old paper certificates.

When will the paper certificate(s) expire?

What if the details on my NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate(s) are incorrect?
If the details, such as name, address or date of birth, are incorrect, you can contact the RTO you completed the training with for the necessary corrections to be made. If the details are incorrect, you cannot have the NSW RSA/RCG Photo Competency Card processed until the corrections have been made. Corrections can take up to 3 weeks and are made by OLGR, not the RTO.

What if my address has changed since completing the NSW RSA and/or NSW RCG training and I have processed the NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate(s) at the Australia Post Office?
If the NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate(s) have been processed, you must contact OLGR on (02) 9995 0900. If OLGR is contacted immediately after processing, the mail can be redirected to the new address. If OLGR is contacted some time after processing, you may be charged the fee for a replacement card to be sent out.

What should I do if I misplace my NSW RSA/RCG Interim Certificate(s)?
